VERDENSRUM IV, Japan: Landscape/Portrait

The VERDENSRUM series is a a 3D-film and cross-artistic project about cultural icons or metaphors of important world cultures, by Danish media artist Birgit Kjærsgaard.
The performance Landscape/Portrait is inspired by a Japanese mandala ritual practiced by the monks of the Kōyasan mountains and the characteristic Japanese landscapes associated with the ritual. Furthermore it draws on the power filled Japanese form of expressive dance – butoh - and the sound of the shakuhachi flute.
The physical arrangement of this performative work is reminiscent of the tableaux found in Japanese temples. It consists of three parallel 3D-projections, which variously alternate and play together, contrasted by butoh of Sayoko Onishi and Kinya Tsuruyama.

Eudoxie, The Second Tour
Eudoxie on tour, in situ, in destroyed villages

The duo MA2 [Move Art Two] has premiered his new creation in June. Eudoxie is a choreographic and musical work created in situ in memory of the villages destroyed during the Great War. Now this performance will be followed by the second tour in the villages destroyed around Verdun [Meuse, France].

Eudoxie is a feminine ghost who haunts her village destroyed by war. What remains of past life when everything seems to have been forgotten?

The performance brings together Emmanuel Fleitz, contrabassist composer, and Sayoko Onishi, master of butoh dance, within the collective Move Art Two [MA2]. The two artists embark on a contemporary experience questioning the memory of village, which has disappeared, deforming and re-emerging to give birth to a new trace of life. Eudoxie tries to bring light to the memory awakened in the present world.

Distribution. • Sayoko Onishi: choreography and butoh dance. • Emmanuel Fleitz: composition, double bass and sound installation. • Laëtitia Drouin: creation of costumes. • Julian Rivierre: sound and graphic design.

Production. • Creation: Move Art Two [MA2] / Man’ok & Cie. • Eudoxie received the label of the Mission of the Centenary 1914-1918, which accompanies the projects, commemorating the events of the First World War.
